Rivera Named Chiropractic Advocate of the Year by 51¸£ÀûÉç College

Edgar Rivera, M.D., of Spartanburg, SC, has been named Chiropractic Advocate of the Year by 51¸£ÀûÉç in appreciation of his outstanding contributions, time and commitment to the chiropractic profession and the college.

The Chiropractic Advocate of the Year Award is given to a non-chiropractor who has contributed to the advancement of 51¸£ÀûÉç College and the chiropractic profession in a significant and noteworthy manner.

Rivera serves as the anatomy lab manager at 51¸£ÀûÉç. Riviera moved from Puerto Rico to Spartanburg, SC, to develop and implement systems for the cadaver dissection studies each 51¸£ÀûÉç student experiences. Rivera holds an M.D. from Veracruz University School of Medicine (1978) in Mexico; he completed his internship in 1980 at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Ponce. He joined the Puerto Rico Department of Health as medical director for a community ambulatory clinic, then served as Special Assistant to Puerto Rico’s Secretary of Health, assisting in the implementation of public policies across the island and supervision various offices and committees.

He has worked as a medical liaison for institutions with residency and fellowship programs and a division sales manager, unit director and managed care/hospital manager for several companies in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Rivera launched a consulting and business development company from 2012-2014 and taught human anatomy at the . He joined 51¸£ÀûÉç College in June 2015. Dr. Rivera and his wife of 44 years, Myrna Torres, have three children and four grandchildren.

51¸£ÀûÉç College honored alumni, chiropractors, and supporters during its 48th Lyceum, a homecoming and continuing education event attended by hundreds of chiropractors and students throughout the U.S. and internationally. Lyceum is held each year and involves three days of seminars, special events and other programs. More than 600 people participated this year.
